Near the Heart of God

It’s probably no secret to any thoughtful Christian that the most important question in the universe is “Would eternity under God’s rulership be truly happy?” Satan perversely decided that it wouldn’t, and has spent every moment since that decision trying to convince angels and humans and who knows who else of God’s supposed tyranny.

And the devil probably smiles in grim triumph when people read their Bibles too hastily and come to the same conclusion.

This year I’m inviting you to read the Bible through with me, this time looking for the heart of God.  After all, gazing into someone’s heart is what anyone does who’s deciding to spend his or her life with another.

I’m providing a Bible reading plan, which you'll see just below, and each Sabbath I preach I will base my sermon on a passage within that week’s reading. I’ll try to let you know the passage a week in advance, so you can focus on it if you don’t always have the time to follow the entire plan exactly.

But please find a way to read much in your Bible this year. I’m doing this with my computer tablet, and am finding it delightfully easy. Maybe an audio Bible during your commute is best for you, or an easy-to-read version you’ve never opened before.

Please join me as we search for God’s heart this year. – Pastor Maylan

BIBLE READING PLAN FOR 2014

If you’re up to reading the entire Bible through in an entire year, here’s a day-by-day plan. The spaces show where the readings are broken into weeks during 2014. For example, January 4 is a Sabbath (followed by a space), and so is January 11, and January 18, so on.

If I’m preaching at the end of a particular week, I’ll prepare a "Near the Heart of God" sermon on a passage somewhere in that week’s reading. Note: some parts of the Bible are more interesting than others, so feel free to change your reading speed if needed. And always pray before you start to read: “Lord, speak to me through your Word today.”– Pastor Maylan
